You’ve been asking, we’ve been listening!

Since the very first year we hosted our Summer Workshop for Black Girls, our community of grown womenfolk have been sharing “man! I wish we had something like this when I was growing up… I wish we had something like this right now!” Some of y’all have been straight up demanding, “where’s our camp?!”

Just as we have longed for (and created) a space for our inner Blackgirl to play and be honored as her full self, so do you! Well, we heard you and we have an answer…

In 2022, OMK will finally host our first Grown Women’s Retreat! The retreat will be a way for us to offer the same kind of sanctuary we provide at camp to older generations of Black women. It will exist as a space to engage with the writing of other Black women, exploring our own creative spirits through art, food and earth. We imagine renting a farmhouse or cabin, perhaps partnering with a Black / brown owned farm, allotting us the chance to engage in growing and/or harvesting. This space will act as a refuge for Black women. As mothers, caregivers, partners, students, laborers, etc. we could benefit from stepping away from it all, even just for a few days, to be held in sisterhood, to have our struggles and triumphs both commiserated and celebrated. The retreat will cover foodwork and storytelling (writing, etc.), of course, but also offer activities such as hiking, foraging, bonfires, breathwork and movement practices . We’ll also offer space for self-directed activities, reflection, relaxation and rest. This will be a world we build hand in hand with you, our sisters, our community.

If you are interested in partnering with the OMK team to help realize this vision, whether it’s an offering of space, support, suggestions or donations please email us at hey@ourmotherskitchens.org.
